Skincare Trends That Will Rule in 2022
As we wave bye bye to 2021, it’s time to start thinking about what 2022 has in store for us. If you’re penning down resolutions, a good one is to practice skincare. Not sure where to start? Check out these skincare trends we think will rule in this year.
1) Picking plant-based ingredients
The biggest trend this year will be skincare making a comeback with natural, plant-based ingredients like cica, Korean ginseng, rice water, lotus root, grapefruit, bamboo, avocado and so much more. All of these are super gentle, making them great even for sensitive skin.

2) Opting for skinimalism
Skinimalism is two terms combined in one – skin and minimalism. Even though Korean skincare comes with 10 expansive steps, all you really need is to tweak these to suit your skin and your lifestyle. You don’t need a million serums and essences every day – just a few effective products should do the trick! And with more multi-use products, this becomes easier. You can have fewer products without compromising on efficacy - cool, right?

3) Choosing cruelty-free skincare
Clean beauty has been all the rage these past few years and people are getting more and more interested in purchasing products that are made ethically and are cruelty-free (like us!). This trend will continue this year as well, with focus being on vegan skincare.
4) Multi-use & multitasking products
Now, more than sheet masks and single use products, this coming year consumers will move more towards gel masks and clay masks that they can use over and over again instead of use and throw ones. Also, there will be a rise in products which are two in one or three in one – for example, our Mon Cherry Brightening Foam Cleanser that combines oil cleanse and water-based cleansing in just one step.

5) To glow from inside out!
Move over glass skin, gold skin, dolphin skin and all of that! In 2022, the focus will be a healthy glow – being confident in our own skins, acne, fine lines and all. Healthy skin will be the forefront with skincare – not perfect skin. And we’re here for it!

6) Get on board with fermented skincare
Think rice water. As we move towards a more vegan or vegetarian approach, fermented ingredients like kombucha, sake, red ginseng will be a big thing in 2022. Studies show that fermenting certain extracts can boost their benefits and also prolong their shelf life without adding any preservatives.
7) Rise of active ingredients
With people spending more time at home and in masks, active ingredients like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, vitamin C and other actives will gain popularity owing to their efficacy. People want ingredients that are proven to work by science.
8) Focus on skin health
Biocompatible ingredients like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, prebiotics, probiotics, squalane and more will take the market by storm as these are great for all skin types, since our body produces these ingredients naturally. This cuts down irritation, redness and all of those nasty things that come with harsher products. The coming year, a healthier skin barrier with soothing ingredients will be all the rage.
9) Gender neutral skincare
Skincare, like makeup, is no longer gendered. Inclusivity is now the forefront of any conversation and in the era of so much awareness, more men are taking up skincare. After all, why should women monopolize good skin?
10) Using natural retinol alternatives
Since Korean skincare is all about treating skin with gentle, hydrating products and infusing moisture into the skin, harsh (yet effective) ingredients like retinol are out. Instead, its alternatives like bakuchiol will take center stage, and milder derivatives of vitamin A like retinaldehyde and retinoic acid which are less irritating will show up in more skincare products.
11) Indulge in antioxidant-rich skincare
You’ve probably heard of free-radicals – the bad guys. They are little particles that can wreak havoc on your skin. They break down collagen and elastin, making skin sag and wrinkle. With rising awareness about sun damage, vitamin C and E have become popular antioxidant skincare ingredients – and rightly so! Try the Mon Cherry range which contains vitamin C rich grapefruit extracts for glowing skin. Vitamin C reduces free radical damage and prevents it too. It also helps fade dark spots and hyperpigmentation to give you spot-free, glowing skin!
What do you think? Will you be following these cooler, more sustainable skincare trends in 2022?
